Woodbridge (from the Norse/Saxon ‘Woden’s Town’) is a beautiful medieval market town set in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the bank of the river Deben.

Moving from Framfield House, a Grade II Listed Building this project saw the construction of a new modern medical centre just outside Woodbridge town centre. Sited within the former Notcutts Garden Centre grounds, a well-known, attractive and sensitive site this project was shortlisted for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) East of England Awards 2008 and featured in the RIBA Architecture review East 2008.

The surgery was designed as a central two-storey structure with projecting extensions to reduce its apparent scale and not intrude upon views to the town centre across such a restricted site. Our Bovingdon Berry Light Multi stock brick was selected in order to blend with local colours and complement other materials incorporated in the design such as the timber cladding.

Our bricks were also used in Precast Concrete lintels to provide suitable window openings to enable plenty of natural light to all areas. The new multi-million pound Framfield Medical Centre brings together a wide range of new services on a single central site creating a one-stop health centre for the local community in a building that brings together modern design and building techniques with traditional building materials.
